2000-2005

Diverse Songs der letzten vier Alben von Sarah Brightman sind auf den Soundtracks namhafter Hollywood-Filme zu hören, darunter „Time to Say Goodbye“ (aus dem Album „Timeless“) in dem Film RONIN von John Frankenheimer (mit Robert De Niro und Jean Reno) und „Deliver Me“ in BROKEDOWN PALACE von Jonathan Kaplan (mit Claire Danes, Kate Beckinsale und Bill Pullman).

Sarah Brightmans „Scarborough Fair“ (Album „La Luna“, 2001) wurde als zentraler Song in der Rosamunde Pilcher-Verfilmung ZEIT DER ERKENNTNIS (2001) eingearbeitet, und „It's a Beautiful Day“ (Album „Harem“, 2003) war der Titelsong für die Rosamunde Pilcher-Kampagne im ZDF für 2003. Der Titel „Sarahbande“ ist die offizielle Erkennungsmusik der Nachrichtensendung von TV-Asahi, der größten japanischen Fernsehgesellschaft. Dort läuft die Musik in Form verschiedener Kurzfassungen, z.B. als TV-Asahi News-Trailer, TV-Asahi Sports-Trailer usw.


Musikproduktion

Michael Soltau hat als Produzent maßgeblich an der in der zweiten Hälfte der 90er Jahre aufkommenden Musikrichtung „Classical Crossover“ mitgewirkt. Dazu zählen Künstler wie Sarah Brightman, José Carreras, The Ten Tenors und im weiteren Sinne auch Gregorian. Das Ziel ist die organische Verschmelzung von klassischen Themen und symphonischen Klängen mit modernen elektronischen Sounds, Loops, Percussion- und Rock-Elementen. Heute arbeitet Michael Soltau in seinem Berliner Protone-Studio.

1999-2006

- Album-Zyklus „Gregorian - Masters of Chant – Chapter I/II/III/IV/V“ (edel records 1999-2004) der englischen Gruppe GREGORIAN (www.gregorian.de) nach einem Konzept von Frank Peterson: Gregorianischer Chor singt Pop- und Rock-Songs im Ambient-Sound und im symphonischen Gewand. Michael Soltau ist zusammen mit Jan-Eric Kohrs und Carsten Heusmann Produzent und Gründungsmitglied dieses Projektes und zeichnet verantwortlich für den cineastischen Sound.
- GREGORIAN - „The Dark Side“ (2004). Wandlung von Ambient-Pop hin zu Arrangements der unheimlichen und härteren Art.
Komponist der epischen Gothic-Ballade „Unbeliever“ und diverser Interludes.
„The Dark Side“ erreichte Platz 16 der deutschen Album-Charts.
- Produzent der DVD „GREGORIAN - Live In Prague“ (edel records).

- THE TEN TENORS: Singles: „Bicycle Race“, Titel-Song zur Tour de France 2004 bei ARD und ZDF, „Water/Va Pensiero“ und „Together“.

- SARAH BRIGHTMAN: Album „Harem“ (EMI-Angel, 2003);

1995 - 2002

- Produzent/Keyboarder/Programmer/Komponist für die Produktionsfirma Nemo-Studio in Hamburg. Es entstehen 7 aufeinander folgende Alben von Sarah Brightman im Stil von Classical Crossover bis Pop, zu den weiteren Produktionen zählen ERROL BROWN: „Love in This“ (Album, eastwest, 1996) und OFRA HAZA: „Ofra Haza“ (Album, easwest, 1996)

- José Carreras: gemeinsam mit Frank Peterson Produzent mehrerer Titel des Albums „Around the World“ (Warner, 2003).

1991 - 1995

- Arrangeur/Keyboarder/Toningenieur bei Modern Toys Music in Hamburg (Studio von Cannes-Preisträger Kelvynn Hallifax & Lothar Brandes) in der Sparte Werbemusik, zahlreiche Veröffentlichungen von Singles und Compilations.
- Produzent/Mixer/Engineer im Peer-Musik-Studio, Hamburg.


Ausbildung

1988 - 1994

- Musik- und Ingenieursstudium an der Fachhochschule Düsseldorf und der Robert-Schumann-Musikhochschule Düsseldorf mit Abschluss (Dipl.-Ing. 'Ton- und Bildtechnik'); Hauptinstrument Klavier bei Prof. Wieslaw Piekos, Mediendramaturgie bei Dr. Lothar Prox.

- 16 Gold- und/oder Platinum-Auszeichnungen für die Sarah-Brightman-Alben „Timeless“, „Eden“, „La Luna“, „Classics“ (EMI-Angel 1995-2001) aus verschiedenen Ländern, darunter USA, UK und Deutschland.

- 5-fach-Platin-Auszeichnung für die Single Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli „Time to Say Goodbye“ in Deutschland (Warner/eastwest 1996-1999) für 2,9 Mio verkaufte Exemplare (Eintrag in das Guinness-Buch der Rekorde als die meistverkaufte Single in Deutschland).
